WELL! That lasted about a week! We went to a girl from Sunday School fifth birthday party on Saturday, and yes, the children had a lovely time at the Apex Park in Moe (for which I can find no photo's, and I forgot my camera!), even though it rained.
At the party we learnt that a lady had these two little Jack Russel's that she could no longer afford to feed, and she was going to have the put down, but the pound wanted $115 a dog, and the vet wanted $130 a dog, which rendered the fact 'no money to feed' redundant!! We took pity on the lady and told the friend who told us the story we could take them.
So we made a detour on the way home to visit this lady, but she wasn't at that time at home, and our friend offered us coffe whilst she made a phone call to see where the lady was. Half an hour later we finally got hold of her, and an hour later we were introduced to our new Protégé's.
Now, we were under the impression they were not more than puppies, BUT! These two fellows were old! Meet Fred, a thirteen year old short hair, and Butch, a seven year old long hair.
They took a couple of days to get used to us, and visa versa. Please note that Mr Butch will still high tail it out the door if it is left open! AND he smells very, very doggy. But not like Gaspode. Its not a dirty doggy smell. Just a strong doggy smell :S, and Fred is whole. We have never had a whole dog before.
They seem to be very attached to us now. The night before last they were whining and snuffling around the bed. They wanted to sleep on the bed with us! Not Happening Jan!! So last night we put a doggy bed and blanket beside my side of the bed and both slept on it very peacfully.
Touble is we now have a pussy cat problem, as these wee doggies do not like to share! They grumped about the mouse too, but saw the rough side of my hand and have left poor Dexter alone since. But the cats pose a bigger problem, as the dogs just won't let them be.
What Michael is currently doing is cutting a huge window in the sliding door in the kitchen that leads into the laundry/toilet/side door, so that the cats can access their food and beds and shelves AND inside the house, without going on the floor where the wee doggies are.
I hope this passify's all parties, as I actually like these dogs. Better than I likes any dog since Max.
The girls just came home from a dentist check up, btw, and their teeth are great! Dassah's front teeth were pulled, if you recall correctly, and the dentist is very happy with the new one that has come down, the progress of the other one, and all her new molars. And Phebe's mouth is perfect :D
The dogs are so lovely. I thi nk I would have taken them home too
ReplyDeleteThe dogs ARE lovely, though Mr Fred has a small piddle problem, but I discourage him with my home made orange vinegar spray, which he doesn't like the smell of so much lol.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to get along wonderfully with the children, and this does my heart good, as they last two dogs we had didn't.
