Desexing the kittens and Jury Duty

I got a jury duty notice in the mail, as one does from time to time. But I am unusual. I like jury duty. I find it immensely interesting, and even refreshing, to have just one thing to focus on, and not be judged in my thoughts.
During the week that I was awaiting to see if I had been picked for jury duty, we had arranged to take the kittens to Keysborough in Melbourne to be made half the cats they were. The reason we were having the cats done all the way out at WoopWoop instead of locally is because to have them done at any of our local vets would have cost $300 for desexing one cat! At this vets office we were having them BOTH done and vaccinated for $250 the pair!
Naturally I was on tenderhooks to see if that was the day I was needed, because if that was so I would have had to rebook the kittens, as Michael couldn't travel an hour and a half into town to a place he had never been with four children and two kittens.
Anyway, it was all good, as I wasn't needed. So we got up before dawn, piled the cats and the children into the car, and off we went!
I had organized breakfast and lunch the day before, and it was all packed into the picnic basket, and we munched on breakfast during the hour and  a half drive to the vets office.
Once we had dropped the kittens off we left (Hadassah was very worried about them, but we assured her we'd get them back safe and sound) we headed out to a large park we had noticed on Google Maps the night before as we were researching our route.
After a couple of wrong turns we found it. A HUGE place it turned out to be. Braeside Park its called. http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/braeside-park . We spent till lunch time faffing around the play ground area,
 Here is Hadassah,
 Malachi's legs,
 the rest of Malachi,
Hadassah lamenting how short she is,
 Phebe and Eli
Malachi climbing and Eli smiling for the camera
 Hadassah climbing
 Daddy wandering
Malachi trying to get the camera off me
A photo in which you cannot see Eli (he's there, though)
Hadassah asuring me she CAN climb it (she did!)
Strategic slippery dip shot
Daddy trying to figure out hoe to help Eli climb this
Round about
round and around and around....
Another shot of Eli (this time you can see him)
Eli being happy with the slippery dip
Hadassah and Phebe waiting...
For Daddy!
Malachi trying to climb back up
This plane was flying over head all day!
Phebe posing on a big tree stump
Mummy taking a turn
Daddy taking a rest
Peek-a-boo Mummy!

then had a lovely lunch (not just the food, heh heh heeh!) we ate bacon and cheese muffins, frankfurts and salsa and fruit, AND there was enough to feed the birds as well.

Then we went on a 4 kilometre walk, just to fill in the time and walk lunch off.

This is a beehive
I was half joking this was how they kept the walkers on the path. Electic fences lined most of the walk on one side.
Strategic mushroom shot!
Eli giving Daddy hell...

This was a half way shed, and above is what we saw inside!

I loved the way this huge old tree seemed to reach out to embrace us!

A grave site.
This was an info stop, and it had Eternity written on the back.

After the walk we were pretty wiped, but we had to go find a pay phone to call the vets office to see if the cats were done, because they said thy should be done by three, but that we had to call first. So we made our way through the busy roads to the nearest shopping centre, and there we found a phone.
After getting the all clear from the vets we drove back to the vets office, and, upon collecting our pusses, we started on the trip home.
Which ended up taking four hours because we made ONE wrong turn and it was peek hour Melbourne traffic so we literally could not turn around!!
FINALLY we got home, after dark, at around 7pm. We bought hot chips, ate, bathed, and fell into bed.

  2. Wow - you take some of the best trips with your kids. This park looks fantastic! I was able to read about the red gum (eucalyptus) trees and the grassy wildland from the picture. I hope your kitties are doing well!
