Getting ready for Baby

This is the other piece that I wanted to save.
I have just finished my preparations for bubby, so I thought I'd write up what I'd done, in hopes that it'll help some one else out there :)
So, first place we started preparing was the house. First question we asked was, where is bubby going to sleep???? Answer:
No idea, don't know whether its a boy or a girl yet, and since we have a couple of girls and a boy already, depending on what it is, it'll shack up with either ones! You naturally may not have this problem, baby either being your first, or else you have extra rooms. We have neither, so we settled on having bubby in our room for the moment, and place it accordingly after we meet it, lol! SO! Here we go!
BEDROOM PREPARATIONS:
- Bassinet
- Clothes. Neutral colours (eg, not blue or pink), and have six long one pieces, six short one pieces, four pairs of long pants (some with feet, some without) and four jumpers (some with a neck, like a skivi) six pairs of booties, six socks, six bonnets, six singlets, (all clothes are sized between 0000 and 000, as size of bubby is unsure) and four 'bunny rugs' or cotton wraps.
- Handy lamp near bassinet for night visits, and some bench space clear around it for anything I might need to put down in a hurry.
- Some toys in a little netted bag off to the side. Not many, because obviously baby won't be terribly interested in them just yet, but they are a handy thing to have!
- Two dummies and a dummy steraliser (a container with a lid that opens without being taken off) (note: I do not necessarily mean to use the dummy, but it is a handy thing to have near for desperate moments, I think)
Just a thought - don't go buying a lot of clothes before you meet baby, because you KNOW your going to buy more! Also a thought conserning Baby Showers. Maybe don't have one till after baby is born, as the presents you get will be more relevant if you wait.
- Nappies. I have both disposable nappies and cloth. My preffered nappy is a cloth, but I indulge a bit when they are very small, because it takes them a while to fill 'em up, lol! At this stage one or two packets of disposables, and about 24 or so cloth (plus water proofs to put over cloths to keep everything dry longer. I have six of them).
What we did for the clothes and nappies is I made space in out dressing table, because the clothes don't take up that much space, and when we know where baby is going, we'll organise something more permanent then, but if you are able, I think that having babies clothes put away in their long term place straight away is a good idea, because it gives you a chance to learn where everything is so that on those sleep deprived nights when you need to do an emergency change, or during the day when you have a VERY messy baby and need a change real quick, you can reach for what you want without thinking.
HOUSE PREPARATIONS:
- Space made in linen closet for bassinet linen. I have aprox 6 sheets all up, three for lying on, three for covering, and three blankets, all in neutral colours. Also two matress protectors, two mosquito nets, and two bassinet ruffles (to go one the outside of the bassinet, not the inside). Also towels for baby. I have four of them in there.
- Space made in bathroom for baby bath, bath stand,
- Space made in bathroom cupboard for baby bath solution, baby oil, baby lotion, baby wipes, various baby creams, baby powder, and baby face washers (I have four real cute ones!)
Space was looked for in the lounge room to place a change table, which I have used with all the other children and wanted to use with this one, too, but our small lounge room is pretty full, so we've had to scrap the change table plan, and store the creams and powders in the bathroom.
- In the kitchen went four new baby bottles and a bottle steraliser (I plan on breastfeeding, but bottles are very handy!), my breast pump (I have an old fashioned hand one, and it is only small, so it fits in the cupboard easy)
- In the laundry we've made sure we have woolwash (which is my prefered thing to wash the baby clothes in), some nappy soaker, and nappy buckets with lids.
TRANSPORT PREPARATIONS:
- the baby capsule was pulled out, checked over to make sure it was safe, and cleaned within an inch of its life. (If you are unsure take it to your local transportation authority and have them check it for you).
- I have a couple of special new born transport cushions that go within any given baby seat to help hold them in place, and I've washed them and have them in the linen closet.
- The pram has been scrubbed till is gleams, and all the bits have been checked over to make sure they fit well, like the bumper that goes across the front, the seat the child will sit in is attached properly, the water proof covering is clean and attaches alright, the warm leg covering is clean and attaches alright, and the new born bed slips in and sits in the correct position and attaches alright, and is clean,
Note for pram: it is handy to have some plastic nappy waste bags, a reusable shopping bag, an umbrella, and a torch in the pocket of the pram, 'just in case'.
- Nappy Bag. First I had to make sure it was clean. Then the contents were checked. I keep in mine  three disposables, some plastic waste nappy bags, a small plastic box with baby wipes in it, a spare bottle, a spare dummy, three changes of clothes, (to suit all season, not just the one you are in), a couple of toys, a book for me, a bottle of water for me, and a small first aid kit, containing some band aids, some savlon, suncream, a map of the area, a pen and paper, $1 in 20c pieces, and a face washer.
HOSPITAL BAG PREPARATIONS:
- Two nighties for me
- One dressing gown for me
- about six pairs of under wear for me (you never know with blood loss!!)
- Maternity pads
- Bra pads (incase of leakage)
- Dilly Bag, containing a small bottle of shampoo, a small bottle of conditioner, some special body cream (to indulge, as it is way to small to last more than a few days anyway), cotton tips, toothbrush, tooth paste, dental floss (good for more than cleaning your teeth with!!), face washer, shaver, hairbrush, comb, and extra hair things, nail clippers and nail file.
- A pair of comfy slippers for me
Clothes to go home in for me
- A book for me
- Six long one pieces for baby
- Four booties
- Four bonnets
- A couple of disposable nappies (not too many, as the hospital will provide while we are there)
- baby powder, baby bath, baby oil, and baby cream.
- Four 'bunny rugs'.
- my address book and some paper and envalopes and stamps.
- my small emegrency sewing kit, containing a small assortment of needles and pins, white thread, black thread, a small assortment of buttons, a crocheting hook (many uses, very handy!) a pair of scissors, and a thimball (also has a surprising amount of unexpected uses!).
I thi-ink this is all . . . I'd check my list except this IS my list, so that's no help, lol! Hope you guy find this informative :)
