I have not yet mentioned the temperature. It was at least 40 degrees, every day we were there, sometimes a bit more. This was apparently a cool week.... I think My brother can have it.
The day we were finishing up moving the stuff from one house to another, Nath suddenly announced he was taking us out for lunch! This was met with approval, as this was the third day in a row of cleaning and everyone was feeling tired.
Nath piled into our car with us, as it didn't make sense to take two vehicles since we had a spare seat.
We bought fish and chips in Echuca, http://www.travelvictoria.com.au/echuca/,
On the Victorian side, and then drove across the bridge into NSW to eat it!
I was sooo tickled to be in NSW again! Michael thought it was funny, hehehe!
The next day we all decided to take a day off, and so after the first milking Nath took us out to one of the two land rises the country side boasted. For the life of me I can't remember what Nath called the place. It took about half an hour to get to.
A big lump of rock!
Which we then proceeded to climb, because it was there, and why not?
A quick look back at the car, and the sunburned flatness of the land around us! That little white bit is our car. Please not we were not even half way up yet!
The top is in sight!
The children were doing really well.
Another couple of shots of the surrounding country side
Eli having a go at it alone. Mostly I carried him because his legs were too little to manage most of it.
The last little bit!!
Ahh! Here we are on top! Yay!
Every one just sort of flopped down at this point, because it was REALLY hot. Also our water bottles were starting to get really low, and the flies were being a real pain, but it was worth it!
A foot and water shot.
And here we go down again.
I thought this rocky outcrop really interesting
At this point we took a different route to on the way up because Nath wanted to show is a cave. So we were sort of going sideways instead of straight down.
Here we are. It was a bit of a squeeze.
Inside was lovely and cool!
The last of the water was finished in here.
Narrowness, thy name is cave!
Another shot I had to take. Beauty, even in these extreme conditions!
And here we are at the bottom!
Sooo dusty!!
The next stop was about ten minutes away in Pyramid Hill http://www.pyramidhill.net.au/index.html, and after a brief stop in the small township to get much water, we embarked on yet another climb.
Phebe looking somewhat worn out but never the less very eager to do more climbing!
Eli not wanting Daddy at all.
A rest at a convenient seat.
landmark at the rest stop
Phebe showing me the view
Daddy deciding he no longer likes this lark.
This is as close to the top as we got. We didn't go any further as everyone was exhausted.
On the way down we had a catastrophe! Nath was jumping back across a cleft to help Malachi over, who was having a hard time coping with the height by this stage and was freaked out. As Nath jumped his phone flew out of his pocket and smashed against the rock into three pieces, and it disappeared! All Naths numbers and information gone in an instant! It wasn't good at all, but there was nothing we could do about it, so we pushed on.
Finally back in the car, and every one relaxed into the air-conditioning. We rushed back home so that Nath could duck into town to get himself a new mobile phone before work. He was hoping that an old sim card that he had stashed away would give him back most of his information.
When he got home from the evening milking he rushed into the room to connect his new phone, and then put the sim card in to see what he still had. It turned out, nothing. The card was empty. He has had to start collecting all his information again from scratch.
A somewhat damp ending to what was otherwise an awesome day.
I know part of that first hill was called Suicide Rock :-P
