We opened the presents first, and the children went wild with delight over the thoughtful presents that Granny had brought for them, and Michael and I were pretty tickled over ours, too. Granny was surprised and touched with her gifts, made it all worth it, really! Malachi's favourite present was a Solar System board which talks to him when he presses buttons, Hadassah's is a huge Tory Story 3 writing set, and Phebe's is a Dora Doll. Michael's favourite present was a bowtie, and mine was a pair of hanging tomato growers (the ones where the tomato's grow out the bottom of the pot) I'm not sure which Granny liked best, she seemed to be more engrossed in the children's, lol!
Next came the food, and we sort of had it like an open table, where the children could keep going back and grab more if they wanted, only this ended up not working because Cat discovered the sausages on the table, and we had to cover the whole lot with a table cloth, so it wasn't that accessible after all, lol!
While we ate we watched the Polar Express (I've briefly written up about it here) and while Phebe wasn't terrible interested in it once she'd finished eating, the other two were more into it, and us oldies stayed in our seats (as much as possible) right to the end!
We finished the night with the children playing noisily with their toys while Daddy washed the dishes, and Mummy and Granny going for a walk around the block in search of Christmas lights!
Please note, the whole thing took place around an enormous amount of hanging washing that I'd had to bring inside because it started to rain heavily very shortly after I'd hung them outside!! It was still way too warm do muchg with them, but I got around it by putting each of the full clothes horses infront of an open exterior door (three clothes horses, three doors, very convenient!)
