12 Oct 2010 Luverly days

It has been awesome drying days these last couple of days, so I have been pushing through the discomfort to get some serious cleaning done. Aside from feeling green around the edges, its been great!
Yesterday I decided I couldn't take our bed any more, which, even though it had been changed the week before, was coming untucked and hard to make, so I stripped it as soon as I got up, mainly to deter Michael from getting back into it as he is suffering from sinus at the moment because of the temperature change. After breaky I discovered the darned doona thingy wouldn't fit in the spinner (its one of those foamy things that are sown into the cover), so I got Michael, who was cleaning the study (shock! Horror!!) to try and fit it in. After some ramming he gave up, and hauled the whole thing outside to await the rise, and I had to put more water in the tub .
Ontop of this and the normal washing I just couldn't stand the fact that I couldn't see the carpet through the grot, so out came the vaccy and I vroomed it through the house (having to empty three times, mind you!).
Finally, at lunch time the children were in bed and I got a half hour sit down with Michael for lunch with minimal interuptions. (Hadassah and Phebe were asleep, but Malachi was playing his Super Hero's game on his Play Station II, and he wanted help from Daddy to kill Queen Bee)
After lunch was the rinse (we have a twin tub, so washing can be involved), and that only took half an hour, and then I was able to sit and read till it was time to bring it all in again, fold it and put it away (and it all dried, YAY!)
Today I decided not to do any washing, and then Michael told me he was going to wash the dog, so I said, when your done you can clean the bathroom because its always so grotty when you've done the dog. Huh, this means all the linnen in there needed to be brought out and its such a shame to put old linnen in a fresh bathroom, SO, more washing, DOH!
We-ell, Michael washed the dog while I did all that washing, and then I asked him to shave off all Malachi's hair, as there were eggs in it, but Malachi is mortally afraid of hair cuts (he's never been hurt or mistreated, its just a thing he has) so after about fifteen minutes of wailing and screaming in the bathroom while Daddy tries in vain to calm him down enough to get the shaver near his head, but it WASN"T happening. So he finally ops for Mummy and the scissors, but starts to weep and wail with me too, till I gently point out that if he wriggles he'll be cut, and I gently run the closed scissors over his prying fingers for emphasis, which worked. He watched me chop his hair off in the hand held mirror I gave him for this purpose, and he scissors only pulled a couple of hairs out when he jerked away from me. After this he looked a wee bit like a badly shorn sheep, so Daddy wanted to finish the job with the shaver (electric, works in a circular motion, absolutly no chance of being cut) and the howling started up again. Daddy pursevered, but we got a phone call about ten minutes into the noise from the neighbour, who wanted to know if Malachi was dying. After Michael put the lady at ease I went in there to help hold him so the job could be finished, but even that didn't help the poor little tyke much. Even now the back of his head looks rather unfinished, but its a very traumatic experience, for him and us, and we can't send him to a hairdresser, as they apparently won't touch him with the eggs in his hair, and he doesn't like them either anyway. After lots of hugs Malachi was back to his old self as if nothing had happened and Michael and I had some quiet time watching first season Boston Legal to try and calm ourselves down! As you can understand, we do not undertake this excersise very often! Only when the need is great!!
Luckily Hadassah was out shopping with Granny while all this was going on, or she would have been upset too!
After this I'm happy to say all the washing dried and was put away, the bathroom was cleaned, and redressed, and I even took some time to put some seeds into pots (tomato's, beans, cucumbers, basil, and beetroot), and tonight all three children are quite content, watching Walt Disney's Tarzan on TV.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Yes, today was alot quieter. I went with the family to Vic roads this morning to re register the car (its in my name, you see, so the least amount of hassle is my doing it), and then this arvo I took Malachi and Gaspode for a small walk down to the pond.
Its been raining steadily since last night, so the water banks are pretty swollen, and it started to rain again as we arrived at the waters edge, so we were wet when we got home. I had to go lay down, but Malachi and Gaspode were both happy.
Yeah, I dunno what it is, but Michael and I console ourselves with the knowledge that in the long run its his responsibility, not ours . . . I have mental pictures or tying Malachi up at forty to shave his hear . . .
