We
usually go to the bakeries first thing on payday to see if they have
any day old bags of bread, because this takes care of us for the week,
and instead of paying $1.10 per loaf, it works out closer to .50c a
loaf.
Michael just dropped off the bag he bought, and I'm so tickled! Its got sesame seed loaves, round loaves, double loaves, cut loaves, bread rolls, some fruity rolls, turkish loaves, and three boston tea cake loaves in it! We are so blessed! Theres enough here for us for the fortnight, and a little ;eft over for us to share with the church for soup night (which our church organised to feed the homless).
This is so cool!
(note: Malachi has already consumed a boston tea cake on his own, and Phebe is demolishing the fruity rolls at a rapid pace.)
I know the bakers delight in Mid Valley doesn't have day old bread available for the public, but theres one in Morwell that does, and theres another Baker in Churchill that does, though their bags tend to be more full of donuts and sweet breads than loaves . . . I know it sounds nice, but when you've just spent five dollars on something you expect to last a fortnight, and discover donuts? Well, lets say that perhaps I'm more Mum than I used to be, LOL!
Oh no, sweet! I'm afraid I did not make myself clear, so sorry!! Pregnant brains! That's my excuse! We have a soup kitchen every Friday night out in the churches car park, and the fellowship donates food to make soup, which we then give to anyone who shows up. Its still moving slowly because its only been going about a month, but we always get a few people show up!
You made me think of something I read in a Terry Pratchett book recently . . . one of the witches is queen of acquiring extra food from any outing she attends, and I read that she was the inventor of the left over sandwich soup . . . ??? I am intrigued! I want to know more!
