20 Jul 2010 Tme with Mum

Okay, so I tell Mum when she does the next big shop in Sale to call me so I can come and help, because Sale is only about half an hour away, so I can actually be of some service. She calls me up Sunday and says she's going on Monday and I think 'HELP! It's end of pay fortnight, very little fuel, and even less money!!' But I tell her I'll be there, where and when? Between 9:30 and 10.00 am, and in front of the Warehouse. Okay, fine, trouble is, I don't know Sale, so Michael Google Earth's it for me, and we discover that the map is VERY old, and the crucial piece of information is hidden by a dirty great bus!! But fair nuff, got something to go on.
Next morning I discover the house is very condensed up, AND Malachi has wet his bed, so I tear around the house making beds, change and made Malachi's, and wiped down all the windows, going through around four nappies in the process, FINALLY get to brekky around a quarter to nine, Pheeuuhh!! Enough time to eat leisurly and leave, yes? Maybe, only when I'm done I made sure the older two got dressed, changed and dressed Phebe, and then did a last minute check of cargo in car, handbag and person, and actually make it out to the car before I come back in again to put on deoderant, make up, shoes (!?), and make sure Michael has put money in my account, before I try to leave again, and this time I make it away!
So I'm driving along the highway, looking at my fuel gauge, which is pointing at half, and I'm listening to the car as its labouring along in what sounds like third (its an automatic) and praying like crazy (please Lord, let me at least make it there safely!). Put the demister on because the cars starting to fog up, as its still really cold out there!!, And it doesn't help a bit, so I put the air conditioner on as well, and this is a problem, because the darned thing is only as hot or as cold as the car is, and it only works on full, which can be pretty noisy, but hey, at least that worked!
Around Rosedale the car finally kicks over into fourth and I breath a sigh of relief. The car has decided it doesn't like the cold. That's all. That's fine. We can deal with that! No worries, mate!
I just get past the Welcome to Sale sign when I get an SMS, (Michael has got set on loud to the chorus of many birds, because I just don't hear it otherwise, no matter WHAT noise its set too! Weird huh?). After pulling over I discover the SMS says, 'Running late", I think, 'Wut!? All this and your running late?" . I laboriously write back that I am here and how long will you be. ( I don't SMS ever, so this is a new and painful experience for me!!), and then pull out and continue driving. I had just passed the big weird metal model what whatever it might be when my phone chirps again. Over again I pull, right in front of a church or something, and she says she's on the way. Okay, but that doesn't answer my question! Never ming, I'd try to find the Warehouse, and tackle her later on the subject of time.
I drive into the town centre, and, after a few miss directions, finally settle myself behind someone who seems to know where they are going, so I follow them closely and try to look around at the same time - HEY! That's the Ware house! Oh my gosh I found it!!! Where;s a park?!! There's one, Quick! Pheuhh! Great, now that that's over with we shall not dwell on the fact that I found it by dumb luck and shall pretend that it was cunning and  careful planning, instead!
Okay, now I text Mum again, "Am here, where are you?" and she says, "coming, stay there." Okay, that's fine. I get out of the car to stretch my legs and I find the bank, where I withdrawer the money Michael found for me as aprecaution, and then discover a lovely little second hand bookshop which I happily loose myself in till Mum texts saying she's here.
What does here mean? I don't know the town, except for the little bit I had just walked over, and Mum says where are you, and I say in front of the Warehouse, and she says, that's where she is, and I say no its not because I can't see you, and she says okay, then I need to go to the big parking lot , and I go Huh? And she says look, just stay there and she'll come to me and I say okay. SO! I settle down to wait for mum to come. And I wait, and wait, and wait! It must have been about ten minutes before I finally see her come out of the shop, and there were hugs all round, as Mum had Tamar, who is child number seven, and Hannah, who is child number eleven, with her.
So, down to the serious prospect of shopping. I have to be careful with what I have because I don't have much, but Mum is unconserned, as she has her own agenda, so I follow meekly. We go first to Dimmes, where I look and like, but don't buy, as its all a wee bit more than I can afford, and then we go to Spotlight, where I look and drool, but don't buy because I don't need, and then we go to the Warehouse, where I buy some toothbrushes for the children, a pare of tongs for the kitchen, and some seeds. After that we head over to Woolies, and by that time I'm getting hungry, which means I'm also getting a wee bit airy and vague, so my conversation (which was steady) was becoming disjointed and eratic. Mum says we'll eat as soon as we get out of Woolies, and you know how long it took to get out of there? I know it was only because I was hungry and a little tired, but it seemed like AGES!!
Finally we sit down and eat! I was starving! We had bought bread rolls, meat, cheese, and lettuce specifically to eat for lunch while we were in there, and every one had two each, except Hannah, who is only small, and its to be expected she'd eat less. We followed up with icing covered rolls, and finally all was well with the world again!
After eats we went to the Reject shop, where I got a red hot poker bulb, and then we went back to out prospective cars, and I drove around the building to the car park that was mentioned earlier, which was just on the other side of the building where I was at! From there I followed her to the Adli car park, and I pushed the trolly again (I pushed it for her in Woolies, too), while Mum filled it up, and once we'd done in there and emptied the trolly we hopped across the road to a lovely little opp shop, where I bought a sleevles, black cardigan with big buttons, a pair of boots for Hadassah, and a couple of pretty bracelets.
Lastly, we jump in the cars and drive to one last opp shop, a Salvo's, and the ladies in there were really nice. My first attempted purchase was a huge my little pony plushie, which was big enough to sit on, only the ladies told me it shouldn't have been where I found it, as it needed to be cleaned, and I said that's okay, how much, and they said $25, and I said, uh, okay, you'd better taken it back to be cleaned . . . My next choices were better, a little toy for each of the children, a couple of little necklaces and a new black hand bag for me, with Betty Boop on the side.
Right, now, I'm not too tired, but my back is giving really uncomfortable twinges, and I have no idea why, as I work harder on out shopping day, lift heavier stuff, walk more, the whole kit, and yet my back is playing up. It NEVER plays up! What's going on? I am being more careful with it, but other wise ignoring it. Big hugs for all, with the promise of seeing them again soon, and I hop into the car and head home.
My fuel is only down about two bars, so I hope I make it home with out having to stop for fuel as my back is hurting. The car is behaving itself as normal again, eg: trying to go 10 k's over the speedlimit, and it is pleasantly warm in the car. All I have to do is consentrate on not falling asleep!
Non eventfull trip home. Needless to say I didn't fall asleep, or get booked by the cop's. It's all good! AND I didn't have to stop at a petrol station either! Bonus! BUT!!!! When I get home I discover the house in chaos, so I jump straight into the shower so Michael can bath the children (I keep my water, and warm it up so its good for the children, and then it gets put into the washing machine to wash the clothes in.) and when I get out Michael puts the children through while I get dinner on, tidy the house, and get the first load of washing on. In amongst that I get Michael to call Mum and make sure she got home alright, which she did. All is well.
Okay, so, before I finally get to bed, we have dinner, IU do about eight loads of washing, rinces too, and hang them all up inside to wait till tomorrow when I can hang them up with out worrying if they'll be covered in coal dust (seriously, it seems to be thicker at night!!), and blown off the line or something, AND I even get to watch an episode of Sanctuary with Michael. My back was caining by this time, and I had to go to bed with a wheat pack, But I was well content with the day. It had been jolly good!

Methinks, for me at least, its something to do with the fact that when your out shopping your leaving yourself open to complete strangers looking at (or through) you in a variety of ways - people you pass on the street, Sales attendants, other drivers even. And while I'm sure I give my fair share of weird looks, sometimes I just down want to be noticed, and let me tell you I draw a lot of looks! Probably because of my hair. And so when I'm feeling particularly anti-social I just don't go out, 'cause I'm bound to look like a thunder cloud, lol.
Used to go through Lakes Entrance all the time when we went to visit Mum and Dad in Wyreewa, but the highway now goes though, erm, is it Bruthen? Where ever it is, but it cuts out that whole elbow, and nearly half an hour off the trip, so we down go down that much any more. Mainly, though, because after driving two and a half hours in the car with small children I feel too tired to do more than vege when I get there, har har.
Yes, Traralgon is very self sufficient, and with both street shops AND the shopping centre too, which is nice. We go there once a week on Fridays for Hadassah's dance lessons in Danceworks 101.
Meh, I'm still feeling seedy, but my back is no where near as bad as it was!!!!
