06 Jun 2010 Quiet time

I am at home from church today, partly because I am feeling distinctly seedy, and partly because there are no working printers available, so there is no Sunday School!
My days have been so busy, and yet I cannot think of anything particular to write down, and yet I have come this far, so I must make an effort!! Okay, must think . . .
We'll start with my beloved husband. Michael has been working really hard on his attitude lately, having just recently been told in no uncertain terms by my mother that just because he is feeling out of sorts doesn't mean he should take it out on every one else, and sullenly retreating to his room and sulking is not an improvement, so he is attempting to be sociable, even when he is having a serious case of the grumps. For this I am thankful, as his mood greatly affects mine, and it is so much easier to be my normal self when he is not dumping on me :) He has been attempting to put his shed down the back to rights, as we need to fit the cot in there, and he has been using it as more of a dumping ground than a storage shed, so you can imagine what it looks like, LOL! He has been able to keep himself busy with little DIY projects, like building a cupboard in the wall by the back door to keep the dog food in, and cleaning all the children's art work off the walls, fixing his sliding door so it runs smoothly, erm, and what not, but the shed is definitely the biggest job on the list. I'd rather he painted the inside and outside walls and laid the floor on the extension, but this requires money to first buy the materials, and we are in short supply of this at the  moment.
Malachi is now doing chores (and has a good attitude about it, most of the time!). He makes his bed in the morning, clears the table after each meal we eat at it, and feeds the dogs, (which is why we need a cupboard for the dog food, as where it currently lives is too high up for him to reach). It is really funny to listen to him feed the dog, as he has to constantly tell them the 'sit!' so often, its like a chorus! LOL! He is also discovering the joy of addition and subtraction, and is showing an interest in spelling (like trying to figure out what letter o word will start with, though for some strange reason he'll usually settle on second letter in the word, not the first . . .) He is also showing great enthusiasm at soccer, and loves swimming!
Hadassah is slowly learning how to write her name. I actually had to teach her how to hold the pencil before I could start teaching her how to write! She held it in a fist in the middle of the pencil, rather than resting it in her fingers close to the end. She is proceeding with the learning process quite well, though she has a very short attention span, so I have  had to be creative with how I write her lines down so she will finish the page and not get bored and grumpy with it, but we are moving along slowly. Also the star she gets on her calendar for every page she completes is a great encouragement to her! She is doing much better in dancing now - has been improving ever since Granny started to give her 'lessons' every Monday arvo. This time has helped her self esteem no end! With Granny she is learning sewing, and sometimes they do beading, and sometimes cooking, depending on what Granny is up too. But I'd have to say she enjoys cooking the best - probably because cooking is a whole heap of little things, rather than sewing or beading, which is much of a muchness.
Phebe is now talking well enough to hold a conversation, and is a bright little spark! She  can count to five, dress herself, and pick up after herself (and any one else that tickles her fancy!) but she is still very much a Mummy's girl, and loves to hover around me like a shadow! We have just moved her into the bottom bunk (hence the need for the cot to be moved into the shed), and Daddy had to build a gate to fit on the side between the end and the ladder, partly for a buffer so she wouldn't fall out, and partly as a discouragement in getting out of bed whenever she feels like it. It partly works, as she doesn't get out of bed quite so much a night, but we still have to sit guard at the doorway (just out of sight) to send her straight back to bed again when she trots out in the minutes before she finally decides to go to sleep.
I am, like I mentioned before, am feeling seedy,. so I am going steady, but I have recently dug the garden and aired the soil a wee bit for the plants that are there, hacked down a huge wattle that was shadowing my clothes line and preventing my clothes from drying, (left a bit of it there, but we are in the process of trying to fit it all in the green bin, with only minimal success), and trying to keep a low profile from my neighbour, who alternates between ignoring me and shooting looks of death in our direction. The twin tub is a mixed blessing, as it does save a ton of water (especially if I get Michael to fill it from the bath water), but it now takes me most of the morning to run the washing through and get it on the line . . . mixed feelings, but methinks the water saving is an bigger blessing than the lost time is a burden, LOL! What else have I bean doing? . . . . The second Sunday School is an extra job, I have teachers for it, but none of them have time to prepare their own lessons (young people with jobs and an education to learn, you know how it is), so I do all the preparation for both the youngsters, and the pre-teens, but every one is enjoying it thoroughly, so it makes the extra work worth it. My mornings are pretty full with 'school work', even though Malachi doesn't start officially till next year, and the afternoons are just plain full, but I'm glad for the activities, as when I stop I think too much! LOL!
I hope every one is enjoying their Sunday, and that you reach tomorrow feeling refreshed and ready for Monday! Love to all!

Thankyou! That means a whole lot!
I have actually been feeling rather threatened by the atmosphere outside, especially since the police are encouraging people to call if they hear their neighbours raising their voices, and as we are having problems (of unknown source) with our neighbours, and she's already called child services over something that was untrue, so I swear I feel like a cat on a hot tin roof about this,  and rcp-432's blogs are not helping my anxiety at all, BUT! I tell myself that its probably all in my head, and I proceed by keeping myself as busy as possible so I do not think, and keeping the family occupied so there is minimal outbursts, and when we scrape the money together so we can move, I will leave confusion and bad feelings behind and start afresh!

Malachi would do the chores for you for nothing! I wouldn't let you pay him, though, as he is very smart, and would quickly put this asset to use, meaning we'd never hear the end of it, LOL!
Hadassah would probably let you have a small lick and watch proudly while you savoured it, then quickly decide it was too good to share and guts the rest herself LOL!!!!!
And Phebe would chew your ear off with her chatter - She's sooo cute with her baby words! Could just eat her with a spoon, that one!
No news yet, not game enough to check. Sick of negetive signs on the darn things so my nerves are completely shot, and I'm telling myself I'm just being over sensitive and to stop being such a wuss!
Malachi is also a social butterfly, but with a twist - he will not join a group because he knows all the people, he will only join in if he is interested in what's going on! Other wise he is happy to be on his own, and let others join him. The carers at ABC have had a hard time with him as peer pressure just rolls off him like water off a ducks back, so if they want him to do something he doesn't ant to do, the only way to get him to do it is to talk him into it, if that is possible, otherwise he's a mule! LOL! This is why his enthusiasm in soccer is so exciting! He has to work as a team, you see.
Good luck with the school work/socialising thing. We are dead set on home schooling, and our way through the socialising problem with home schooling is that the children are all involved in the above mentioned activities. It means a little bit of running around for us, but I think its worth it! And we get to meet other parents to boot!
I go for an walk every morning before brekky, sometimes its half an hour, sometimes it as long a an hour, just around the neighbourhood, and this is when I do my detached thinking. Also, if I'm lucky, I'll get a short period of nothing time on the computer while Michael is washing up . . . . I spend a fair bit of time on the computer in retrospect, but its mostly surveys. Naturally I don't earn enough to live off, but occasionally I discover I have enough points to get a gift card for somewhere, and this is nice :) Independent woman! Oh yeah!
